The Health Benefits of Having a Morning Routine

For most adults, a jam-packed day with lists of responsibilities and obligations isn’t uncommon. Between your professional and personal or family life, daily activities can often seem overwhelming and time-consuming. So, if you’re feeling extra stress or a decrease in productivity, a great step to take toward improvement is implementing a morning routine. A good morning routine offers so many benefits to your physical, emotional, and mental health. Research suggests that those who stick to a morning routine have more productive, stress-free days and better reach their daily goals. Let’s go over a few benefits of adopting a morning routine:

Improved Nutrition

What you put into your body has a massive effect on your overall health. In a perfect world, you’d have a solid three healthy meals a day to properly fuel your body and provide it with the necessary nutrients. However, while many of us are on-the-go living fast-paced lives, all too often, nutrition is outweighed by convenience. With a solid morning routine, you can start the day off right. Give yourself a few minutes to make a well-balanced breakfast and consider having a glass of water. Starting your day off with a boost of nutrients and hydration is a sure way to improve your energy levels and help you make healthier choices throughout the day.

More Time for Practicing Self-care

With all that goes on in life, finding time for self-care can be a challenging goal to reach. It’s not uncommon to put your needs behind those of your job, family, and friends. When you already feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day, how can you fathom fitting a self-care practice into your already busy schedule? This is another area where a morning routine can help. Whatever your self-care preference, whether it’s an intense morning workout, a long walk, or a simple hot cup of coffee in the morning, incorporating it into your morning routine is a great way to ensure that you don’t miss on some “you-time.”

Increased Productivity and Reduced Stress

We all have unproductive days, but how often do you see a pattern between how your day starts and its outcome when it ends? On the mornings you wake up rushed, feeling stressed and unorganized; it’s not unlikely for that feeling to carry out for the remainder of your day. However, taking an extra 30–90 minutes in the morning to commit to your routine will drastically improve your ability to be productive and minimize stress as the day goes on. According to VeryWellMind, “The morning routine helps us set the tone for the day, better allowing us to control our schedules rather than our schedule controlling us. As we start each day fresh, we can better focus on what is in front of us, where to prioritize our time, and, ultimately, increase our productivity.”
